Checking the AC Function

Signs of Problems with an AC System

Here are some signs that your AC may need to be repaired.

  • Warm air blows out from the vents. If water found its way in the system, it can turn the refrigerant into a corrosive acid. This mixture damages hoses, seals, and rings, causing leaks.
  • Strange odors come out of the vents. If water is in the system, it can cause mold and mildew. The cabin air filter is likely clogged and dirty or the evaporator case has a blocked drain.
  • Not enough pressure when the air moves through the vents. This issue could mean the blower motor is wearing out, there’s a restriction of airflow, or a buildup of dirt or mold in the evaporator core has blocked the air.
  • No air is coming out of the vents. The airflow is completely blocked or one of the key components has stopped working. This situation is often more extensive and costlier to fix.
